MIM Says 'Kill the .XXX Domain'

NEW YORK — Morality in Media President Bob Peters is urging his supporters to take a stand against the .XXX domain name proposal, with the publication of a letter by Attorney Patrick Trueman calling for a 'War on Pornography.'

A former federal prosecutor serving under Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Trueman was chief of the U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

"The .XXX domain should be killed and a stake driven through its heart so it never rises again," Trueman wrote of the controversial adult TLD proposal by ICM, whose fate is being decided by ICANN. "Not one sound argument has been put forward for why the world needs more Internet pornography."

"What is needed instead of an .XXX domain is a war on pornography," Trueman stated, citing what he calls "four major harms from pornography," including "harm to children, violence against women, addiction to men women and children and increased sex trafficking."

Trueman hopes his efforts will lead to increased federal obscenity enforcement and along with Peters is encouraging the public to demand ICANN reject the .XXX initiative.

Interested parties may email their comments on .XXX to ICANN before May 10, at icm-options-report@icann.org.
